Pulled from BeyondTheRunways.com archives July 2014:

Shower, homemade smoothie, chocolate chips, four email accounts, Google news, and WWD. That's how I've started most mornings for the last two years. Today, a Lanvin campaign caught my eye.

Looking for a familiar face? Edie Campbell, part of a recent wave of British models that became household names, is featured third from left in the new Lanvin Fall 2014 Campaign. What's interesting about this campaign in particular is that it features the whole Campbell family. Her sister, Olympia, grandmother, Joan, and mother, Sophie, join her in a shot by Tim Walker. To my surprise, not only does this campaign feature the three generations of women in her family, the Campbell men are featured too, with a cameo appearance by her horse, Dolly. (photos below post)

Originally a blonde, Campbell demonstrated her versatility as a model by dying her hair black, layering into a choppy, androgynous look. This transformation became her selling point, differentiating her from other fresh-faced, innocent looking young models in an intensely competitive world. Whereas she was once the definition of Burberry, now, she embodies the new Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane: edgy, punk, sexy. In fact, just last Thursday, she was revealed to be the newest face of Yves Saint Laurent fragrance.

Her career is reminiscent of that of Freja Beha Erichsen, who dared to change her fate by replacing a young, fresh look with dark, blunt bangs full of attitude. It was a successful gamble and for a long time, she was Karl Lagerfeld's muse. For Edie, who only made her debut on the runway in 2011 with Burberry, success catapulted her to the stage of first name recognition. While she hasn't quite obtained the same status that Kate, Naomi, Cindy, etc. have achieved, Edie, along with Cara, Karlie, and Joan, have the world's attention at their fingertips right now, and I can't wait to see what comes next.
